Heyyyy guys, I'm back! Was missing for the forum for a few days... got grounded over the "week" "end" and all I had to play was this weird game on my WonderHawk called "Deltarune" or something???
It was kinda weird but also kinda fun? I like the funny wizard goat thing, he should do cooler magic than just lame healing tho, BWL!
...Silly little improv bits aside, hello roundtable! I return from my self imposed no-internet-so-i-dont-get-any-spoilers-at-all-not-even-a-hint moratorium to start us off on our hot and tasty Deltarune thread! Chapter 5 is WAITING and boy howdy was it a Chapter of the Critically acclaimed game Deltarune!
Here's how this thread is gonna shake out:
For the first 2 weeks after the release of a new chapter, ALL discussion related to that new chapter must be spoiler tagged. No ifs, ands or Buts, we wanna preserve the excitement of discovery for everyone 'round here! How do you spoiler tag? Using the handy dandy bbcode tag our lovely webmaster Bloatware set up for us! It's used like so:
[spoiler]whatever you wanna obscure/tag goes in between here![/spoiler]
Now! With that out the way! ...Thoughts on chapter 5? or maybe you've got thoughts on an earlier chapter you'd wanna share? Lemme hear it!

my biggest thought of chapter 5 is more a bit of a complaint, because this genuinely annoyed to the point I enjoyed the game a bit less, that imo the attack patterns in battles were a bit too obnoxious here
too many of the enemies had attacks where they spam bullets flying in every direction all at once, which seem to be made specifically to trip you up by having too much stuff happening at the same time to properly react to. compared to most attacks in other chapters that generally only come from a few directions, and if they are more complicated then are a bit slower so you have some time to process everything going around, where the skill is in trying to avoid them, not knowing what even is happening in the arena
same thing with timing, any specific moment in this game that requires specific timing (say, parrying the punches in the final boss) just seems to be so specific and really annoying to time correct
and then other than that I found it a 'just ok' chapter, not bad just doesn't live up anywhere close to the intensity that was chapter 4 for me

Mostly my feelings! I'm legitimately shocked at how much harder this one got than the other chapters before, I don't know if it's a difficulty spike or me being out of practice, but either way it was SO frustrating to play through the secret and last boss of this chapter. I liked the story, though, and (most) of what they did with the sidescrolling mechanic. It was a very "good, this is where I expected the story to go based on the previous themes, I am satisfied, I am ready to see how they atomize the status quo in the next chapter."

Listen I know this probably gets my gamer card revoked but Pink's fight really is overtuned, the cross bombs are fucking ASININE in how difficult they are to dodge once they get going, genuinely do not know what they want from you other than to get nuked lmao, I'm honestly surrpised that Pink isn't getting a patch when the knight did. Otherwise though I think this is like my fav chapter, second only to 4. It's got a lot of heart and character development and that's what I"m all about babey!!

It's fucked how the bombs do damage the second they land, oftentimes when you're stuck in a little corner created by the blasts of the LAST round of bombs, so you either move and get hit by the explosion, or don't move and get hit by the falling bomb. How they allowed that is so beyond me.

LITERALLLYYY you verbalized it so well, It's fine when she's tossing out one bomb at a time but as the attack progresses it just snowballs into an entire screen wipe, it's ridiculous. I weep for no hit runners on this one

Pretty interesting video "An Earnest Analysis of Transfemininity in Deltarune" with a discussion that seems pretty interesting for quite a few people here
youtube video here
(Obviously very much chapter 5 spoilers)
Am not transfem so can't really comment on it, but seems neat
(the way the spoiler tag works with youtube embeds is weird)
