The Big Fat Resource Thread!

Something my punk ass wanted to contribute from the start!

It's a tough world out there for fat folks! Many people here are fat IRL or have close loved ones who are, and wanna make a friendlier, comfier world for Existing While Fat. This thread is for linking/listing/recommending/discussing any resources related to that! Including, but not limited to:
- Fat-friendly clothing vendors
- Fat-liberation zines, blogs, and discussion rings
- Fat-liberation charities and organizations
- Related book recommendations and podcast recommendations

That sorta thing!

I'll go first since, well, I started the thread!

Links to some fat-friendly clothing vendors:
- Softcore, carries up to 6X and focuses on loud, brash "partycore" aesthetics.
- Chub Rub Clothing, carries up to 5X and focuses on clothing with slogans and patterns that are either playful about the wearer's fatness, or call deliberate attention to it in some way.
- Die With Your Boots On, fat-friendly gothwear vendor; generally carries up to a 4X (5X for some items) and puts their fat-friendly money where their mouth is by making sure their clothing is visually repped by just as many plus-size models as straight-size ones!

Book recs:
- What's Wrong With Fat? by Abigail Saguy, a somewhat dry but excellent read. Written by a (thin!) sociologist, it breaks down why systemic fatphobia isn't just wrong, but actively illogical and harmful to society.
- You Just Need To Lose Weight, And 19 Other Myths We Tell Fat People, by Aubrey Gordon, an extension/culmination of much of Gordon's other work that examines and debunks a slew of commonly-held fatphobic beliefs.
I've read a lot of fat liberation literature, but these are the two I'd most recommend to people for starters! (...Also most of my books are in boxes right now cuz I'm moving soon, so I'm unable to look through my collection for more at the moment.)

Podcast rec:
- Maintenance Phase, a podcast co-hosted by Aubrey Gordon (author of one of the book recommendations above!) dedicated to debunking diet culture myths and generally ripping the weight loss industry a new one.

Zines, Activism, Organizations, and Related:
- The entire archive for FaT GiRL, a 1990s punk zine that was run for fat lesbians and their lovers, by fat lesbians and their lovers. Mild Content Warning due to its age for occasionally containing some language that was appropriate to its specific scene and time period but may be more contentions now.
- Relatedly, the project that gave us the above, the Fat Liberation Archive! This one's exactly what it sounds like--a community-run collection of articles, zines, writings and resources centered around the fight to make the world nicer to live in while fat. Some of its collection dates all the way back to pre-internet!
- And continuing on this roll (teehee), a link to Fat Lib Ink, a fat-justice and antifascist group, many of whom's members contributed to the above.
- I'll also link the NAAFA, or National Association for the Advancement of Fat Acceptance, the US's largest/most prominent/most organized fat-liberation organization/charity. As cool as that is, it should be noted pursuant to this forum's interests and themes that the NAAFA currently, regrettably, takes a hardline stance against feedism/gaining circles. (Belatedly to this list, it should be likewise noted that Aubrey Gordon of some of the earlier resources sees these circles as utterly necessary to include in the fight!)
- To pivot the last couple bullets into slightly more directly fun territory, a link to Fategories, an article by activism blog Fluffy Kitten Party that details a community-built size categorization system you sometimes see pop up in fat sociopolitical discussions, and
- A recommendation of Morpho: Fat & Skin Folds, an excellent book resource for upping your fat-drawing game! It really goes hard on the physics of how fat bunches and dimples and folds!
Screen for a face, playin' the bass
Oh this is a BEAUTIFUL masterpost of resources and links to fat liberation literature and other goodies, I'm especially gonna have to check out those clothing labels cause wow having something that fit a bit better would be very nice, abweheh

Thank you so much for sharing these recommendations, doubly so for the notes on who's more receptive to spaces like ours and who's hardline not about it!
THIS is a certified deercowsheepie classic....

This is absolutely the kind of thing I'm for, really happy to see someone here this early in the forum's life use the space to platform this stuff. :3 Great job!

I've been into Aubrey Gordon's writing since watching the doc "Your Fat Friend" (named after her one-time online moniker). Another book she wrote, "What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat" I found to be an incredibly useful and informative read as well and how I learn't about size-acceptance-group-created terms to describe levels of fatness that aren't judgmental over the people who are those sizes (these happen to be the "Fatagories" you linked to, btw).
Oh, this is a wonderful list! I'm definitely going to be looking at all of these ^v^

For books, I'd like to suggest "Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia". I do know Feedists for Fat Liberation exists, but they don't seem to be very active other than zoom events, which is a shame >_>.
Hootsifer/Hooty - Stygian Owl
Also from Feedists for Fat Liberation is a really interesting article on fatness/access certification that uses the "Fategories" system as mentioned earlier as a framework to make an alternate system that's more direct and doesn't lump those over certain clothes sizes exclusively to the same types of experience: https://www.fatliberation.org/categories-of-fat-access/

...man, the more I hear about FFL, the more I'm curious on getting involved in any way with what they do 'cause I appreciate their work just as I appreciate the work of everyone we're talking about here so far. Genuinely a beautiful thing to highlight. <3

(Shoutout to Dragontzin for making an attempt at a scientific graph relating to Immobility re: weight/height/etc factors combined, for making a guy I follow who's a gainer above 500lbs post about what I linked up top, finding Tzin's graphs close to accurate and legiable but also considering it a great excuse to point to this also. :3)

This is now available in spreadsheet format. Probably quite convenient for character planning 'n' writing stories!

(Green is some mobility difficulty, e.g. unable to touch toes; orange is more significant mobility issues; red is practical immobility/requiring external assistance to move.)

Ooooh, that was fast!
